NCM 16006 Island Scrub Jays and Climate
Scott Morrison, The Victor E. Shelford Director of Conservation Science for The Nature Conservancy, stands at the edge of Santa Cruz Island overlooking Santa Rosa Island. Though only seven miles from Santa Cruz Island, Santa Rosa exists in a cooler marine ecoregion, and could offer island scrub jays a buffer from climate change threats. These birds once existed on Santa Rosa, and their reintroduction to the island could also help the island recover from years of habitat degradation.
