Audubon Scrub Jays
Team members joked that they sometimes felt like Cinderella getting these brilliant blue birds to follow them toward a feeding station. But the interaction carries a far more serious nature. The birds don't just inherently know to come to the stations. They must be trained. And this particular pair requires some extra help to build familiarity with the setup. With incredible patience and focus, team lead Carina Motta pishes to a distant jay, every once in a while tossing out an acorn to prove her intentions are genuine. Eventually she succeeds in bringing the jay to the feeding station.
