In 2022, Wildlife Services worked in conjunction with the Oregon Department of Transportation to haze cormorants from sections of the bridge during nesting season. The goal was to prevent the establishment of nests on a segment of the bridge undergoing maintenance work needed because of guano accumulation that causes corrosion and could threaten the bridge's integrity. Agents from APHIS, a division of Wildlife Services used whistle and light guns to flush the birds.
