All that glitters is not gold. Electric tea lights illuminate the former placement of plants in a marijuana grow in High Sierra National Forest. Each divot would hold three plants at a time. This lone plot, one of several making up the entire grow, contained about 1200 plants. A single grow can range from a thousand to tens of thousands of plants. When eradication efforts first began, teams would simply go in, make arrests and cut plants. This led to about 80 percent of sites being re-established, often in the same season. Since Mourad and Greta have been doing reclamation, 100 percent of the cleaned sites have not been re-established. The thinking is that removal of the grow's infrastructure makes it too cumbersome to resume activity. In 2018, Mourad, Greta and their collaborators cleaned up 89 sites, a goal they hope to exceed in 2019.
