Signs of cannabis begin to emerge as law enforcement and science teams enter an active grow on the day of a drug bust in El Dorado, Cali. Marijuana plantations on public lands, also known as trespass grows, are a multibillion dollar industry in California, supplying about 60 percent of black market marijuana to the United States, according to the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Sometimes grows blanket terrain much like a typical industrial-scale crop, but other times, as in this case, plants will be cultivated in a scatter mosaic, camouflaged amid existing vegetation. In both cases, grows can stretch for miles.
